About the course

Pursue our BSc (Hons) Software Engineering degree to acquire essential skills for software systems, unlocking diverse career paths. The programme covers the full software engineering process, emphasising methodical, robust, and error-free design and development. Year one introduces computing principles, application building, web development, and a real-world team project. Subsequent years advance full-stack web development, secure coding, and skills in multiple programming languages, culminating in team projects, a major final-year project, project management expertise, and software lifecycle tools. This course shares its first year with BSc (Hons) Computer Science, enabling transfers, and offers a foundation year option. A four-year placement route provides third-year industry experience to enhance employability (subject to availability). Benefit from group projects simulating professional teamwork, extracurriculars like hackathons and the Computing Society, and state-of-the-art facilities in the £115m Dalton building, including high-spec PC labs, games and UX labs, and a drop-in support space.
