About the course

Our human biosciences degree combines academic theory with technical skills. You’ll develop a broad understanding of human biosciences and their significance in the contemporary world – and how you can apply that knowledge in the workplace. You’ll study human function and structure in depth, the causes of health conditions in humans, their diagnosis and their prevention. Typical areas of study include human physiology, cell and molecular sciences, neuroscience, how drug treatments work, as well as the effects of infections and our immunity to them. In our specialist laboratories, we’ll also train you in the various scientific techniques used to study human function and health.Group study brings vital teamwork and communication skills, while in your final year you’ll get the chance to focus and develop your academic interests through an independent piece of laboratory-based research or a dissertation working with one of our expert researchers.FEATURES AND BENEFITS

  • Our teaching and research laboratories include high-specification teaching and research laboratories include a blood biochemistry laboratory, a new microscopy suite and exercise performance laboratories. Our teaching and research laboratories include blood biochemistry, biomechanics, and motor control and exercise performance laboratories. You’ll have access to specialist equipment for research in genetics, cell biology, nutrition, orthopaedics and exercise science.
  • We are investing £115m to transform the way we teach in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Opening in 2023, our new Dalton building will enhance collaboration between students, staff and industry and provide new and improved teaching spaces, including a 200-student capacity ‘super lab’.
  • You will be taught by expert staff who research all aspects of human health and function, with expertise in areas of cardiovascular sciences, musculoskeletal health and neuroscience.
  • You’ll have access to regular online video support, which provides additional explanation and guidance on a range of topics, from coursework and exam paper guidance to lab demonstrations.
