About the course

In our BA (Hons) English community, students analyse literature from the Renaissance to the present, exploring its ties to film, art, and popular culture. Supported by leading researchers, you will develop subject-specific and transferable skills for future success. From year one, engage internationally with global literature modules and renowned academics, using decolonised resources to evaluate assumptions, understand representation, and connect with cultural partners in a UNESCO City of Literature. Assessments build confidence, independence, creativity, and critical thinking, fostering workplace-valued expertise.Access departmental conferences, readings, festivals, and competitions. Staff include Costa First Novel and Ted Hughes Award winners. Rated world-leading (70% research impact, REF21), we offer the Manchester Children’s Book Festival, networks in creative Manchester—one of 28 UNESCO Cities of Literature—and options for a study abroad year or industry placement.
