What you will learn

If you're driven by a curiosity to understand cells and organisms at the molecular scale, La Trobe’s Biochemistry major is your gateway to exploring the fundamental processes that underpin life itself. Biochemistry describes all molecular and cellular aspects of life as we know it, from the simplest bacteria and viruses, to plants and crops, to humans. Advances in Biochemistry furthermore are pivotal to understanding diseases such cancer, neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases, and play a crucial role in the development of new therapeutic drugs and vaccines.

You will learn how to apply scientific reasoning, laboratory skills and critical thinking, to develop creative solutions to complex, real-world challenges. Upon graduation, you'll be equipped to make significant contributions to fields and industries such as biomolecular research,  pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or potential gain entry into further postgraduate courses.
