About the course

Get the transferable and technical skills you need to thrive in the rapidly evolving world of business and public policy with La Trobe's Bachelor of Commerce.Co-designed with industry leaders, the course provides a unique multidisciplinary set of skills and knowledge sought-after by employers and policymakers. These multidisciplinary skills are achieved through students' flexible choice from a range of double degrees, majors and minors. In addition to the primary major options - Accounting, Business Analytics, Economics, Finance, Management and Marketing - our students are currently enrolled in around 70 different majors and minors from across the University. One of the truly innovative features of the Bachelor of Commerce is an entrepreneurial core, which consists of three interlinked subjects developing valuable graduate capabilities. You will first learn to identify an idea or practical solution to a real-world challenge. You will then improve your ability to communicate your solution and negotiate it with the stakeholders. In the final subject, you will develop your capacity to implement your solution in a real-world context. All these skills make you a more effective leader, preparing you to meet the challenges of automation, AI-driven technologies and big data.

What you will learn

Good management practices are critical to the success of modern businesses. Well-managed organisations typically have higher levels of productivity and growth, cultivate highly committed and productive workforces, and are better equipped to survive an often disruptive and turbulent business environment. The Management major offered by the La Trobe Business School provides an understanding of the theories, concepts and processes that drive the management of contemporary organisations. You will explore areas in the key management principles of planning, leading, organising and controlling. In addition, you will investigate critical elements involved in the management of modern businesses, including ethical business practices; the management of effective organisational change; the development of strategies and competitive advantage; the management of international businesses and the impact of globalisation on business practices. You will develop your entrepreneurial thinking, problem-solving, critical thinking and leadership skills, and promote the application of the UN’s Principles of Responsible Management.
