About the course

Heriot-Watt University has led in chemical engineering for over 50 years, ranking 1st in Scotland and 3rd in the UK per The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022, and 1st in Scotland and 5th in the UK for student satisfaction in the 2021 National Student Survey. Our IChemE-accredited BEng (Hons) Chemical Engineering, a four-year programme with an optional fifth year for MEng, delivers core fundamentals in science, maths, and engineering, plus practical skills via group design projects, preparing graduates for industry.State-of-the-art labs feature industrial-grade equipment, including cooling, steam, and compressed air systems, with Arduino and LabVIEW integration. Students can pursue a 10-month Diploma in Industrial Training (DIT) placement for EngTech registration. An Industrial Advisory Board ensures relevance, as noted by Andrew Scott of LGE Energy & Marine: "Our programmes produce graduates ready to ‘hit the ground running’." The degree fully meets Incorporated Engineer requirements and partially meets Chartered Engineer standards.
