This program prepares students to teach in primary or secondary settings. Students undertake a foundation first year and then undertake studies in either primary or secondary education from Year 1/Trimester 3. Students undertake professional practice which includes observation and participation in schools, practice teaching and community field studies.
Foundation (First) Year: All courses in the foundation year of the Bachelor of Education are offered across all three campuses (Gold Coast, Logan, Mt Gravatt) and online. Trimester 3 offerings of 1199EDN, 1399EDN, 1499EDN and 1599EDN are for students who commence in Trimester 2 and will be offered on the Gold Coast and Mt Gravatt campuses and online.
Primary Education (Gold Coast, Logan, Mt Gravatt and online*): Curriculum areas include history and geography, the way language develops and works, mathematics, science and technology, health and physical education, and the arts. Students studying Primary Education may also take a double major in either Health and Physical Education*; Special Needs Education; or Early Childhood Education; or select one of the available minors in English, Mathematics or Science. Core courses in the Primary Education Major are offered across all three campuses (Gold Coast, Logan, Mt Gravatt) and online. Students may need to travel to another campus to undertake courses specific to a particular double Major or Minor that are not offered on their home campus.* Students electing to take the Primary/HPE double major should note that 4082EDN requires physical attendance at workshops at Griffith University Gold Coast campus and other locations on the Queensland Gold Coast. It is not possible to complete this particular course online.

Secondary Education (Gold Coast, Mt Gravatt): Students undertake studies in two teaching areas or one teaching area and one major (conditions apply to some teaching area combinations). Core education courses in the Secondary Education Major are offered on the Gold Coast and Mt Gravatt campuses or online. Teaching area content courses may be offered on-campus only and students should check the timetable for individual courses as to whether they can be completed online. Students may need to travel to another campus to undertake courses specific to a Secondary Teaching Area that are not offered on their home campus.
Secondary Majors - Learning Support (Mt Gravatt and Online)
Secondary Teaching AreasStudents undertaking two Teaching Areas will select one area from the
Teaching Area Content 1 list and one area from the
Teaching Area Content 2 list. Selecting two teaching areas from the same list may lead to timetable clashes and may extend your program completion due to courses being offered once a year only. Students undertaking the Learning Support major will select one area from the
Teaching Area Content 2 list. Selecting the Learning Support major with a Teaching Area from the Teaching Area Content 1 list may lead to timetable clashes and may extend your program completion due to courses being offered once a year only.Students who would like to vary their program by selecting two teaching areas from the same list or the Learning Support major with a teaching area from the Teaching Area Content 1 list should contact "educationconnect@griffith.edu.au" for a new program plan and new timelines for degree completion.

Note: The Australian Federal Government has mandated that all students of initial teacher education programs demonstrate they have been assessed as being in the top 30% of the adult population for personal literacy and numeracy. The Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) is administered and managed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). While this is not a requirement for admission, all students will need to organise and demonstrate a pass result in all components of the LANTITE prior to graduation.
