The MSci serves as a benchmark qualification recognised by employers looking for graduates with strong analytical skills and capable of advanced quantitative analysis and critical thinking, and opens doors to both to further study in a variety of disciplines and a satisfying future career. This means our graduates are highly sought after. Some of our recent alumni have gone on to graduate roles at high-profile organisations, such as: PWC, IBM, JLT Group, McKinsey, SDM, O2, Ernst and Young. Given City’s location and links to business, it is unsurprising that many graduates have been employed by large firms in the financial, industrial or retail sector. Others have gone into education, civil service, research and further study.Students that complete a placement year have been found to be more likely to achieve higher grades, secure a graduate-level job and earn a higher salary. Placements can offer the opportunity to contribute to real-world projects. The School of Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering has its own dedicated placements team, the Professional Liaison Unit (PLU). The PLU provides you with support and guidance in securing a relevant placement, through longstanding relationships with a diverse range of companies. The PLU also collaborates with our Careers Service to support you if you wish to take a summer internship at the end of an academic year.
