About the course

Our undergraduate programmes enable you to specialise in music while building a comprehensive foundation in areas such as aesthetics, analysis, composition, ethnomusicology, music history, and performance. The BMus degree is particularly suited for those seeking an intensive focus on music, offering the deepest study options among our courses. This includes dedicating full time to music specialisation and accessing unique 30-credit modules in Composition and/or Public Recital in the third year, which are unavailable in our BA or BSc programmes.Located in the vibrant arts hub of Cardiff, our School of Music benefits from partnerships with the Welsh National Opera and BBC National Orchestra of Wales, providing students with opportunities like attending dress rehearsals and discounted concert tickets. We offer instrumental and vocal entrance scholarships, automatically considered via UCAS applications. Entry typically requires Grade 8 in an instrument or voice, or evidence of working towards it, with alternatives for those without A-level Music but possessing relevant qualifications. Distinctive features include fully funded instrumental tuition, Business of Music modules with work placements, and various workshops, masterclasses, and lectures for engagement with industry professionals.
