This course fosters a deep understanding of the historical and cultural foundations of media and cultural industries, examining their roles in contemporary society. Students will explore how access to public culture and communication is shaped by social divisions, including disability, class, ethnicity, gender, nationality, and sexuality. It builds critical and analytical skills through the study of popular cultures, engaging with key thinkers, debates, and paradigms in the field. Over three years, participants follow a structured path in culture and communication, culminating in a cultural studies dissertation, while drawing on expertise in journalism and media studies from national and international perspectives. Notably, this academically rigorous program does not offer vocational journalism training.Distinctive features include studying in a Guardian top-rated school for Journalism and Public Relations (2016-2017), with diverse modules such as Managing Media Communications and War Politics and Propaganda. Opportunities for Erasmus and Study Abroad schemes, careers workshops, and Welsh-medium seminars in the first year (with one third-year module exclusively in Welsh) enhance the experience.
