The School of History, Archaeology and Religion, along with the School of Modern Languages, aims to cultivate global citizens equipped with critical thinking, cultural awareness, and transferable skills. This four-year BA in History and a Modern Language fosters advanced communication, critical analysis, and independence through immersive experiences. Students tailor their historical studies to personal interests, exploring diverse societies across the British Isles, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, with modules covering political, social, cultural, gender, environmental, and digital history.On the language side, options include Chinese, French, or Spanish, with pathways for varying proficiency levels. Learners examine linguistic, social, political, and cultural contexts globally, enhancing reading, writing, oral, listening, and mediation skills via interactive resources. A key component involves spending time abroad, such as at a partner university or on a work placement. The programme integrates language, culture, and society, developing creativity, empathy, and employability skills, supported by distinctive features like access to special collections, community events, and structured skill-building.
