Civil and Environmental Engineering, MEng (Hons)

Civil and environmental engineers design, construct, and maintain infrastructure while addressing key environmental challenges, such as waste management, contaminated land, and water treatment. This accredited program delivers the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to prepare graduates for professional roles. Through laboratory sessions, field trips, individual and group projects, and design classes, students apply theoretical concepts to real-world problems, developing expertise in surveying and design. Participants engage with authentic engineering scenarios, collaborate across disciplines, and utilize an open-access makerspace for innovation and teamwork. The MEng pathway offers advanced training in design, management, and multidisciplinary projects.Distinctive features include professional accreditation by institutions like the Institution of Civil Engineers, meeting academic requirements for Incorporated Engineer registration and partially for Chartered Engineer status. The curriculum is informed by industry partnerships and taught by leading academics, many of whom are Chartered Engineers. A strong focus on design and hands-on activities in specialized facilities builds practical skills, while the MEng provides a direct route to Chartered status, emphasizing teamwork and project management through interdisciplinary collaborations.
