About the course

Our BA (Hons) Sports Journalism degree provides hands-on preparation for a career in the field, equipping students with essential skills to report on sports stories across print, digital, TV, and radio platforms. This includes covering live events, conducting interviews, managing collaborative liveblogs, and examining the global influence of sports journalism. From the outset, students receive mobile reporting kits and focus on core media and communication skills, blending creative, contemporary approaches with traditional values. Academic challenges from industry experts, along with mandatory work placements and live story assignments, ensure graduates emerge as adaptable, specialized journalists ready for roles at organizations like Sky, BBC, and Trinity Mirror. The course includes an optional professional placement year, available after the second year, allowing students to gain in-depth experience with an employer. Supported by the university's extensive networks and careers team, participants can secure placements that align with their interests, potentially leading to future employment. Note that fees equivalent to 20% of the full-time rate apply during this year.
