This course is an exciting opportunity for you to train to be an accomplished and effective physical education practitioner in secondary schools. You will gain an insight into the professional practice of a secondary school teacher while developing and embedding your subject and pedagogical knowledge. The Department for Education (DfE) is introducing new requirements for initial teacher training delivered by all accredited providers from September 2024, which means the course information below is likely to change. You will reflect on your vision of what makes effective physical education and hone your pedagogical skills to match, while building evidence to demonstrate your professional competence and capability. Your academic subject work will be undertaken alongside students who are pursuing degrees in other Sports and Physical Education disciplines, enabling you to widen your understanding as well as being taught by tutors who are leaders in their fields.You will benefit from access to our wide range of specialist sports facilities. Please be aware that there may be a need to travel to teaching facilities at other sites for some aspects of the course. You will have opportunities to work with specialist teachers while on school placements. The course is designed around the Teachers’ Standards and the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
