Our BA (Hons) Language and Literature course offers a balanced, multidisciplinary programme reflecting contemporary English studies. It cultivates skills in reading texts and critical concepts, emphasising precise analysis of language structures and effects. Students explore language in practice across society, media, internet, politics, health, and education.Informed by expertise in sociolinguistics and corpus linguistics, the course provides technical and applied insights into English—from phonetics to persuasive texts—complementing literary studies on composition and significance. An optional professional placement year is available after the second year, enabling a full year with an employer to enhance career exploration. Students leverage the University’s employer networks and Careers team support to secure placements, with transfer possible to the placement variant. Fees apply at 20% of the full-time rate.
