About the course

On the BA (Hons) Digital Animation course, you will learn how core art fundamentals, the 12 principles of animation, and principles of acting underpin the creation of engaging, story-led character animation, whether you choose a Film/Television or Games/Interactive pathway. The course also establishes industry-standard tool sets, project management and pipeline methodologies that mirror industry production procedures.Depending on the route you choose, you will produce a range of assessed materials including but not exclusive to storyboards, story-reels (performance animatics), animation foundation exercises (required to demonstrate principles within showreels), specialist portfolios (featuring short films made collaboratively) or game animation sets, demonstrated within collaborative game production within the game engines Unity and Unreal.A key focus of this course is developing performance within character animation. You will develop acting techniques that will promote the development of your inner actor to project performance through your characters. You will also develop an understanding and demonstrate visual storytelling, with ‘show don’t tell’ philosophies.Everyone who experiences this course will have the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team to create the highest quality work and portfolios that are required to enter specialist positions within animation industry pipelines.
