Architectural Technology is where architectural design meets construction technology. Accredited by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), this course provides modern and successful design solutions based on a combination of aesthetics and advanced technologies.This course is your gateway to a career in the architecture engineering construction industry. Learn how to create new designs – as well as working with existing ones – that have buildability, technology, procurement and contractual relations in mind. All of this is set within the social, regulatory, technical, sustainable and aesthetic context of both the UK and global development industry.You will use the latest industry-standard digital tools and technologies such as Building Information Modelling and Management which includes the best practice in Design and Collaboration within a Common Data Environment. As part of the training offered, you will also be using Revit Worksharing and Immersive Digital Design Review using VR, CAD, 3D printing and laser scanning. This set of technology packages will enhance your employability and career progression with skills that give you a competitive advantage.We have excellent relationships with employers, meaning there is a range of opportunities for work placements. We have industry partnerships with engineering, management and development consultants, currently including Mott MacDonald and Birmingham City Council’s Urban Design team.Professional Placement YearThis course offers a professional placement year. This allows you to spend a whole year with an employer, between the second and third years of your degree, and is a great way to find out more about your chosen career. Some students even return to the same employers after completing their studies.The University will draw on its extensive network of local, regional and national employers to support you in finding a suitable placement to complement your chosen area of study. If you do not find a suitable placement, you will be automatically transferred back to the standard, non-placement version of the course.Please note that fees are payable during your placement year.
