About the course

This course offers a comprehensive study of English and Social Policy, ranked first in Scotland for both (The Times/Sunday Times University Ranking 2024). Students explore texts from various literary periods, debating key themes such as identity, race, gender, and humanity, while working with world-leading researchers, novelists, and poets. The programme uniquely integrates critical and creative approaches, fostering skills in communication, analysis, and creative thinking that are highly valued by employers. As part of Strathclyde’s flexible BA Humanities and Social Sciences degree, it allows for subject combinations across Humanities, Social Sciences, and Business. The three-year BA or four-year Honours option enables exploration of classic and emerging literature, alongside social and economic issues in Scotland and beyond. Opportunities include credit-bearing work placements in years three or four, enhancing employability, though the course does not award Qualified Teacher Status.
