About the course

Our BEng Biomedical Engineering programme offers students the opportunity to learn from expert academics, build transferable skills, and gain expertise in diagnosing, preventing, and treating diseases in this dynamic field. Through hands-on lab sessions, participants will develop practical abilities in techniques such as immuno-fluorescent labelling, microscopy, DNA and protein analysis, EEG recordings, cell culture, aseptic methods, and analytical approaches. According to the 2023 National Student Survey, 93% of students in the Department rated teaching staff as good or very good at explaining concepts. At the University of Reading, we lead in world-renowned research in neural engineering, rehabilitation, and medical technology, allowing students to engage in original research during their final-year project. For further details, visit our course page. The modules for 2025/26 have been provisionally approved but are subject to final university confirmation and potential changes. Sample modules include Anatomy and Physiology, Cellular and Molecular Principles of Life, Biomedical Sensors and Wearable Technology, Robotics in Medicine and Prosthetics, Biomechanics and Soft Technologies, and Brain-Computer Interfaces and Assistive Technology. Note that not all optional modules may be available, and updated information will be released in summer 2024; we recommend checking the course page regularly.

What you will learn

The following modules have been approved in principle for delivery in 2025/26.
