About the course

This course offers a comprehensive exploration of computing systems and software essential for advancing technology in an era of smart devices and sustainable energy needs. Students engage in laboratory-based learning, both individually and through group projects, covering key subjects such as analogue and digital electronics, circuits, systems, computing, communications, and electrical energy applications. The curriculum maintains consistent content across electrical and electronic courses in the first two years, allowing specialization in preferred topics by the third year. As BEng graduates, individuals can pursue registration as Incorporated Engineers with the Engineering Council, advance to Chartered Engineer status, or enter diverse industry careers, equipped with the necessary engineering expertise. In the second year, students deepen their knowledge of electronic and computer engineering while enhancing design skills through various laboratory subjects. The third year provides flexibility to select from a range of specialist topics, enabling broad or focused studies. The program involves lectures, group sessions, tutorials, coursework, and self-study, potentially requiring over 40 hours per week.

What you will learn

All our electrical and electronic courses have the same content in year one and two so by year three, you can choose the topics that interest you. In your second year, you will continue to improve your understanding of electronic and computer engineering, and your design skills will be developed through a variety of laboratory-based subjects. In your third year, you can choose from a range of specialist topics to follow a wide path, or focus on specific technologies. Through lectures, group study and tutorials combined with coursework and self-study, you may spend over 40 hours a week on your studies.
