Molecular and Cellular Biology (with Biotechnology), BSc (Hons)

Molecular and Cellular Biology is a foundational discipline essential for understanding all living organisms. This dynamic field integrates biochemistry, genetics, and cell biology to explain how molecular functions drive the formation of cells, tissues, and entire organisms. Advances in this area have fueled genome projects and innovations in medicine, agriculture, biotechnology, and industry, such as developing new drugs, biocontrol agents, and vaccines through genetic engineering. It remains central to biological processes, with biotechnology applying this knowledge to address contemporary challenges.At the University of Glasgow, teaching is research-led, with content regularly updated to incorporate the latest scientific breakthroughs. Students are instructed by leading experts and develop practical skills in problem-solving, communication, and critical thinking from the first year. Hands-on classes provide direct experience with modern techniques, aligning closely with lectures to reinforce learning. We actively support applications for summer internships at the university or elsewhere.
