The Single Honours History programme offers a progressive structure, beginning with a broad foundation in the first year and advancing to specialised studies in the final year. This includes in-depth exploration of a specific subject and a dissertation on a personally chosen topic. The curriculum provides extensive flexibility, allowing students to customise their degree by selecting from various module types each year, with the option to take up to one-quarter of modules from other departments such as Information Technology, English, Theology, Classics, Politics, Sociology, Arabic and Islamic Studies, or modern languages. At the Streatham Campus, research expertise spans from pre-history to the twenty-first century, encompassing international, economic, cultural, and social history across regions like the Americas, Asia, Britain, and Europe. Key strengths include political, social, maritime, military, naval, and medical history, enabling choices from topics ranging from the Roman Empire to the 1960s, including the Vikings, early medieval empires, British politics since 1900, women in society, the Norman Conquest, magic and witchcraft in early modern Europe, and Reformation London.
