Theatre and Italian, BA (Hons)

This degree integrates theatre with the study of Italian language, art, and culture, which have profoundly influenced Western civilisation. Italian, one of the world's most studied languages and spoken globally by the diaspora, offers an enriching experience through intellectual challenges and flexible options to pursue personal interests. Students can begin Italian at beginner or advanced levels, benefiting from a vibrant learning environment where research informs teaching in both departments.The theatre component develops critical understanding and practical skills via historical frameworks, workshops, and engagement with professionals and the Theatre Collection. Alongside, a structured Italian language course explores Italy's history, literature, cinema, politics, and visual culture, including a third-year abroad in Italy to enhance language and cultural knowledge. Upon return, students undertake independent projects or creative industry placements. Teaching includes lectures, seminars, and diverse assessments, fostering skills for global employment. Access to the Multimedia Centre and extracurricular activities further enriches the experience.
