History of Art, BA (Hons)

This course emphasizes progression and offers annual research opportunities. In the first year, students build foundational skills in art history through diverse visual and material culture studies, complemented by a research-focused small-group seminar.Subsequent years involve selecting thematic lectures, seminars, and additional research units. Students conduct independent research annually, culminating in a final-year dissertation on a chosen topic, with an option to study abroad in the second year. Instruction includes lectures, tutorials, workshops, and personalized supervision, with assessments such as essays, presentations, visual analyses, and collaborative projects. Covering topics like Art and Empire, Cold War Culture, and Modernism and the Black Atlantic, the programme develops versatile skills for global employment opportunities.
