The Gateway to Veterinary Science programme targets UK students with veterinary potential who do not meet standard entry requirements for the five-year undergraduate Veterinary Science degree. As a widening participation initiative, it supports eligible applicants interested in clinical fields like medicine, dentistry, or veterinary science. During the Gateway year, students collaborate in a shared interprofessional environment at Bristol's medical, dental, and veterinary schools, guided by expert scientists and clinicians. The curriculum strengthens foundational sciences such as chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology, anatomy, and physiology, while fostering personal development, practical skills, statistics, research abilities, and behaviours essential for university success. Upon successful completion, students automatically advance to the five-year BVSc programme.Eligibility is restricted to applicants from designated UK schools and colleges, those who have spent three or more months in care, or recipients of free school meals. Further details are available on the contextual offers webpage. Note that the BTEC Animal Management qualification is no longer accepted. This course is professionally accredited by the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education, ensuring recognition of its quality.
