Civil Engineering encompasses the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including bridges, buildings, roads, dams, and the management of water resources. The contributions of civil engineers are pervasive and vital to society, involving environmental protection, large-scale construction initiatives, provision of safe drinking water, strategies for wastewater and pollutant treatment, development of transport infrastructure, flood mitigation, and foundation design for varying ground conditions.At UCD Civil Engineering, essential skills in these areas are cultivated through core disciplines such as structural design, water and environmental engineering, transport engineering, and geotechnical (soil and foundation) engineering.
