About the course

In an increasingly uncertain world, the BSc Hons in Social Policy with Criminology explores critical issues such as human needs, welfare, inequality, and wealth distribution, which shape public discourse and daily life. Students will investigate how emerging social risks and precarity impact individuals and communities, while critically analyzing historical perspectives, conceptual approaches, and the complexities of policy-making at regional, national, and international levels. The program emphasizes social justice, poverty, discrimination, and service provision, particularly in the context of Northern Ireland's devolution and its implications.Graduates achieve strong employment outcomes in public and voluntary sectors, including roles in government policy, social research, and advocacy. Many pursue further studies, such as PhDs or MScs in Social Policy, Criminology, or Health Promotion, with potential exemptions for professional qualifications in housing or health management. The curriculum includes six modules per year: four in Social Policy and two in Criminology, covering topics like crime, deviance, punishment, and justice systems to broaden understanding of these fields.
