About the course

Mathematics is frequently regarded as an artistic discipline, appreciated for its inherent beauty, while music, though highly creative, maintains strong ties to mathematics and can be approached scientifically. This joint honours programme allows students to explore elements of both subjects, delving into their historical interconnections, with time equally divided between mathematics and music throughout the course.Participants will undertake required mathematics modules and examine the theoretical and cultural dimensions of music, including listening and musicianship, music technology, and composition. In later stages, options include specialising in specific areas of mathematics or music, investigating the links between them, or pursuing a wide array of topics across both fields. Note that music performance is not available within this degree, though students are encouraged to engage in performance opportunities via university societies and ensembles.
