This Joint Honours degree enables students to integrate English and Film Studies, exploring the cultural and creative influences of literature and cinema. In English, you can examine the full spectrum of literature from Beowulf to contemporary works, including Shakespeare, the Renaissance, Victorian era, Modernism, and global texts, while developing skills in creative writing, literary analysis, and criticism.Film Studies adopts a comprehensive 360° perspective, covering film from historical origins and socio-political contexts to aesthetics, screenplays, and global industries, including Hollywood, Europe, Bollywood, and experimental media. You will build expertise in analysis, research, and critique, preparing for careers in publishing, law, teaching, PR, journalism, and the creative arts. The program fosters key skills through lectures, seminars, and assessments like essays and presentations, with final grades based on second- and third-year performance.
