Translation plays a pivotal role on the global stage, serving as a fundamental human activity that facilitates interaction across cultures. Our four-year BA in Translation with a Year of Study Abroad programme develops essential skills in translating and mediating between languages, cultures, and communities. Students acquire advanced language proficiency, communication abilities, intercultural competence, and critical thinking, while gaining insights into professional translation contexts. The programme also builds resilience through immersive experiences abroad, preparing graduates for translation careers and roles where language expertise is valuable, alongside transferable skills for a competitive global job market.Participants can study one or two languages from options including French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, or Chinese, with specific restrictions (e.g., Chinese and Japanese are single-language only). Two pathways cater to different levels: one for A-level equivalents (Upper Elementary) and another for beginners (Elementary). Through diverse activities, bespoke modules, and opportunities for study or work placements abroad, students enhance writing, oral, and analytical skills. Upon completion, graduates emerge as confident, fluent users of their chosen language(s), equipped for diverse career paths. Distinctive features include a vocational focus, international immersion, dynamic teaching with technology, and a structured skills programme.
