Psychologist
A Psychologist studies people, specifically how they think, act, react and interact. They are concerned with all aspects of behavior and the thoughts, feelings and motivation underlying such behavior.
As a Psychologist you may choose to be either a Research Psychologist or an Applied Psychologist. A Research Psychologist contributes to the body of scientific research in which Psychology is based on. They will examine fundamental principles about human and animal behavior in the context of Psychology. Research helps to guide practicing psychologists about the most suitable ways of assisting people with their problems.
An Applied Psychologist works directly with adults, children, or groups. They may branch into various areas. Theses include being a:
Clinical Psychologists – usually working in a hospital or community setting with people with psychological health problems or with severe behavior in coping with life.
Counseling Psychologists - helping people to improve on their sense of well being, alleviate their distress, resolve their crises and increase their ability to solve problems and make decisions for themselves
Educational Psychologists – tackling problems encountered by young people in education related to learning difficulties and social or emotional problems.
Neuropsychologists – Exploring the relationships between brain systems and behavior
Social Psychologists – Examining how a person’s mental life and behavior is shaped by interactions with other people in a social environment
Almost all of these Applied Psychologist fields require a basic degree majoring in Psychology followed by a Post Graduate Degree.
