About the course

This course equips students with interdisciplinary skills to address sustainable development challenges faced by individuals, companies, and society. It examines whether multinational businesses can achieve long-term sustainability alongside profitability and explores barriers to clean energy transitions, such as infrastructure and policy gaps. Delivered through the acclaimed Centre for Environment and Sustainability (CES), established in 1992 and renowned for its international research in this field, students can also participate in award-winning professional training placements to prepare for diverse careers. In Year 1, modules focus on core environmental science, climate change, economics, sustainable development, and research methods, including a residential fieldwork on community regeneration. Years 2 and 3 emphasize interdisciplinary perspectives through subjects like law, politics, and psychology, alongside CES-led courses to build sustainability expertise. Students culminate their studies with a dissertation on a specific environmental issue, guided by experienced supervisors, drawing from university-wide resources to tackle 21st-century challenges.
