Acoustical engineering applies the science of sound and vibration to technology, encompassing areas such as automotive design, 3D-audio systems, concert halls, noise reduction in aircraft, and ultrasound applications for combating antimicrobial resistance. As a student in this integrated master's program, you will gain specialized knowledge in sound, vibration, and their effects on humans, alongside foundational engineering principles. The curriculum includes theoretical studies in acoustics and audio signal processing, combined with practical design modules and projects, drawing from mechanical engineering fundamentals like mechatronics and electronics.In the first two years, you will cover core topics including acoustics, electrical systems, mathematics, mechanics, and thermofluids. The third year focuses on advanced modules such as noise control and human responses to sound, culminating in an individual project. The final year involves a group design project, professional engineering aspects, and optional modules for deeper specialization. Assessment combines written exams, coursework, laboratory reports, essays, and presentations. The program is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and meets the Institute of Acoustics' educational standards, providing a pathway to chartered status.
