Our BSc Medical Science with Professional Experience equips you to lead in modern medicine by exploring the scientific foundations of healthcare, including biomedical research and clinical practices aimed at diagnosing and treating diseases to enhance patient outcomes. This programme integrates a dedicated year of professional experience, providing hands-on opportunities in clinical settings to build practical skills and knowledge. Delivered by experts from the School of Biological Sciences and the School of Chemistry, Food and Pharmacy, it features industry-aligned training, expert-led teaching on disease mechanisms and therapies, and embedded placements in healthcare environments, preparing graduates for roles in the NHS and beyond.Tailored pathways allow specialisation in key areas: the Diseases pathway examines genetic and physiological disease bases; the Medical Devices pathway focuses on innovative technologies; and the Clinical and Medical Sciences pathway addresses global health challenges. Supported by partnerships with institutions like the Royal Berkshire Hospital, this course ensures real-world experience from the outset, fostering career-ready expertise.

What you will learn

The following modules have been approved in principle for delivery in 2025/26. Please note that as part of our current curriculum improvement process, all modules require final University approval and may be subject to change. Core modules for this course: Anatomy and Physiology Human Pathology Haematology and Immunology Medical Genetics Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy for Cancer.
