About the course

Our BA in Classical Studies and English Literature invites you to examine the profound legacy of ancient civilisations and their ongoing influence on modern literature and culture. You will explore texts spanning from ancient Greece and the Renaissance to contemporary global English writings, delving into genres like poetry, tragedy, and love through translated works, while analysing their impact on today's world. In English Literature, you will study familiar authors and forms, such as Shakespeare, Dickens, and Gothic fiction, alongside newer areas like children's literature, publishing studies, and the history of the book. Sample modules include Theories and Practice of Writing, Ancient Song, Greek Sculpture and Architecture, and British Black and Asian Voices.
