Product Design and Manufacture, BEng (Hons), with industry placement

Our four-year BEng Product Design and Manufacture course integrates creativity with engineering principles, featuring unique engineering, analytical, and manufacturing content for a technical, real-world perspective on product design. Students undertake an industrial year between years two and three, gaining practical experience in design or related fields with support from a dedicated placement team, including application guidance, employer events, and academic visits. The curriculum employs cutting-edge technologies such as digital sketching, high-end 3D printing, rapid prototyping, and virtual reality, preparing graduates for industry—many join leading firms like Dyson, Jaguar Land Rover, Unilever, Caterpillar, and L'Oréal.Modules cover manufacturing, materials, ergonomics, and marketing, with project-based learning addressing challenges in sectors like medical, automotive, and electronics, emphasizing mass manufacture and commercial viability. Delivered by industry-experienced staff and practicing designers, the course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering Designers and Institution of Engineering Technology; it ranks 1st in the Russell Group (NSS 2024), top 10 UK for Manufacturing (Complete University Guide 2025), and top 100 globally (QS 2024).
