About the course

Our four-year BEng in Product Design and Manufacture incorporates an industrial year, providing students with practical experience in design or related fields. This programme blends creativity with engineering principles, equipping graduates with essential skills for design-oriented careers. It addresses real-world issues, from everyday inconveniences to global challenges like climate change, by fostering innovative, commercially viable solutions through a mix of creative, engineering, and manufacturing expertise. The course leverages advanced technologies, including digital sketching, 3D printing, rapid prototyping, and virtual reality, to prepare students for contemporary design demands. Students explore diverse modules covering manufacturing, materials, ergonomics, marketing, and more, while engaging in project-based learning across sectors such as medical, automotive, and electronics. Delivered by industry-experienced academics and professionals, the programme includes an industrial placement between the second and third years, supported by dedicated faculty for applications, events, and ongoing guidance. In the first year, foundational topics in engineering, design, and business are covered; the second year features the industrial placement; and the third year focuses on advanced projects to enhance design skills and commercial awareness.
