About the course

Dundee offers an excellent setting for architecture studies, thanks to its creative heritage and ongoing urban renewal initiatives. Students acquire core competencies in design, communication, architectural history, theory, and sustainable technologies. By sharing resources with the University's art school, learners enjoy top-tier facilities, a dynamic creative environment, and an engaging studio culture. Most instruction occurs through design tutorials in the architecture studio, where students are encouraged to adopt a hands-on approach, developing ideas via manual and digital drawings, models, and prototypes. Working in small groups and receiving one-on-one guidance from experienced, often registered architects, fosters a supportive atmosphere. Opportunities for study trips and exchanges allow exploration of global architecture, with recent student experiences in cities like Edinburgh, Paris, and Shanghai. To become a UK architect, a five-year academic program is required, followed by 24 months of practical training in a professional practice. Typically, this includes three years of study (Part 1), a year in practice, two more years of study (Part 2), and additional professional experience. The course is accredited by professional bodies such as the Royal Institute of British Architects, ensuring recognition of qualifications. Modules and assessment details are available on the University of Dundee's course webpage.
