History of Art, MA (Hons)

The History of Art programme introduces students to artworks from various historical periods and global cultures. Participants will explore the creation, purpose, and context of art, including its role in broader visual and material cultures, as well as the ongoing interpretations of these works. In Years 3 and 4, students can specialise in specific areas, undertake independent research projects, and complete a dissertation. Additionally, Year 3 offers opportunities for study abroad or work placements with partners in the creative and cultural sectors.At the University of Edinburgh, students develop a deep, nuanced understanding of artistic practices and material culture across history.
