The History Department at Edinburgh is one of the largest and most diverse in the UK, with internationally recognised academics whose research directly informs their teaching, as reflected in this programme. We offer an extensive range of courses covering historical periods from the early Middle Ages to the present day, and geographical regions including Britain, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Our curriculum also encompasses diverse approaches such as political, cultural, social, economic, intellectual, gender, and global history.Edinburgh provides an ideal environment for historical studies, situated in the heart of the historic city centre near the castle and medieval Old Town. The University offers excellent resources, including unique archival materials in the Library's Special Collections, and access to prominent city-based collections such as the National Library, National Records, National Galleries, and National Museum of Scotland.
