Northumbria University's Food Science and Nutrition degree equips students with essential scientific knowledge of food science and human nutrition to advance their careers. The program covers key topics such as food safety, quality, sensory analysis, product development, processing, preservation, and practical nutrition skills, including clinical nutrition and dietetics. After the first year, students can choose to continue with the general BSc or specialize in BSc Human Nutrition, which focuses on nutrition-specific professions and offers eligibility for Direct Entry to the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists at Associate level.Both pathways provide opportunities for real-world experience through a six-week work placement in the second year and an optional industrial placement in the third. Graduates are prepared for roles in product development, quality assurance, procurement, sales, and marketing, contributing to food and health agendas. The course is accredited by the Association for Nutrition and the Institute of Food Science and Technology.
