Modern Languages, Communication and Cultures with French, MA (Hons)

The MA in Modern Languages, Communication and Cultures enables students to study one language—Chinese, French, German, or Spanish—to degree level, while developing broader communication skills and understanding of societies, cultures, and political systems. The programme combines mandatory and optional courses across Levels 1, 2, and 4, with Level 3 requiring at least one semester abroad (or a full year if preferred), promoting flexibility for personalised interests.In Level 1, students take language courses at intermediate or intensive beginner levels, alongside mandatory modules on global management, intercultural issues, and cultural history, with electives available for intermediate learners. Level 2 advances language study with courses in linguistics and cultural principles, plus electives. Level 3 focuses on abroad experience, potentially including supervised projects back in Edinburgh. Level 4 features advanced language courses, mandatory modules on international politics and comparative issues, electives, and an Honours Dissertation.
