This course aims to train professional dental hygienists and hygiene/therapists for unsupervised clinical practice under a dentist's prescription, integrated within dental teams. Validated by the General Dental Council in 2015, it equips students with essential knowledge, skills, and behaviors for dental hygiene and therapy roles. Graduates are registered with the GDC and benefit from studying at Cardiff University's School of Dentistry, located in the University Dental Hospital on a shared campus with the University Hospital of Wales. As a small school with around 100 undergraduates annually, it fosters a supportive community, evidenced by high student satisfaction in teaching.Students gain hands-on experience with diverse patients, developing clinical skills in a refurbished laboratory that simulates real environments. They train alongside other dental professionals, access extensive resources like a dedicated library and IT facilities, and receive top-ranked teaching from expert staff. With outstanding employability—99% of 2015 graduates secured UK positions—the course features integrated learning, early clinical exposure, and is delivered in Wales' only dental school. It does not accept international students.
