Foreign Service Officer
Foreign Service Officers (FSOs) are employed within the government to safeguard and advance Singapore's interests worldwide. They represent Singapore overseas as a Diplomat, and have a good grasp of world affairs and a firm understanding of Singapore's position. They may be stationed at some of over 40 Overseas Missions throughout their career.
There are two possible career tracks as FSO: (1) Political and Economic, and (2) Functional and Corporate Services.
FSOs (Political and Economic) represent Singapore in visits, meetings, conferences, and multilateral negotiations. They provide advice on developments concerning Singapore’s strategic interests, and work closely with other government agencies to develop domestic and foreign policies.
FSOs (Functional and Corporate Services) manage the daily operation and administration of the ministry and embassies. They provide consular assistance and help Singaporeans in distress. They also formulate and implement corporate policies within the ministry/embassies.
FSOs require keen networking skills to cultivate and maintain close ties with people at all levels, and must be ready to work in challenging foreign environments. If you are able to persuade and assert, and cultivate good interpersonal relations while keeping our interests at heart, and are prepared to defend Singapore's position on the global stage, this is your opportunity.
