This accredited five-year master's course covers core topics in engineering, complemented by optional modules tailored to individual strengths and interests. Supported by our industrial placements team, students undertake a year in industry with regular tutor visits. Our collaborations with companies like Rolls-Royce, Airbus, and Jaguar Land Rover ensure relevant, practical teaching, helping students develop into professional manufacturing engineers. The first year establishes a foundation in engineering design, materials, manufacturing processes, science, and maths. The second year advances this with modules in design for manufacture, dynamics, and statistics. Year three includes optional modules and a group design project to align with career goals. The fourth year features an industrial placement with tutor support, while the final year involves an individual project and advanced options in manufacturing, business, and management.
In the first year, you are provided with a firm foundation in engineering design, materials, basic manufacturing processes, engineering science and engineering maths. The second year builds on this with core modules in design for manufacture, dynamics, statistics and more. In year three further optional modules are available to help tailor your degree to your specific interests and career aspirations as well as a group design project. In your fourth year you will undertake an industrial placement with support from your tutor as well as the industrial placements team at the university. During your final year you will take an individual project as well as choosing from a list of advanced manufacturing, business and management modules.
