About the course

This joint honours degree integrates the study of film with German language and culture, ideal for those with a curious intellect and enthusiasm for exploring foreign societies. German can be pursued from beginner or advanced levels (such as post-A level or equivalent). In the Department of Film and Television, students engage with leading experts to examine the history, criticism, and production contexts of film and TV, including theoretical analysis, filmmaking techniques, and creative projects. Alongside this, learners explore German language, history, and cultural units, selecting from diverse options to align with personal interests, all within dynamic, research-driven environments in both departments. The third year involves a study or work placement in a German-speaking country, enhancing language proficiency and cultural insight; for more details, visit bristol.ac.uk/centre-for-study-abroad. Students return to Bristol for their final year, where opportunities arise for guided projects, including placements in the creative industries.
