Welfare Officer
Welfare officers assist social workers, counsellors and other caregivers and healthcare professionals in rehabilitation, care and counselling of clients staying at residential homes for children, juvenile offenders, the elderly, or hospices.
They organise and facilitate meaningful activities for the residents and carry out basic health care procedures based on residents’ needs. They handle incidents and complaints from clients, manage conflict and provide mediation. They also ensure the rules and regulations of the homes and safety practices are complied with, and oversee disciplinary measures where needed. Other duties include the maintenance of a clean, safe and comfortable environment for the residents, checking the security of the compound and residents, and performing escort and operational support as necessary.
Good people-managements skills and the ability to work well in a team are essential for welfare workers as they have to manage the residents day-to-day needs while coordinating with the various healthcare professionals and caregivers to provide the best care for them.
