Social Worker
Social workers are trained professionals who care about people, who want to make lives better and relieve suffering.
They do this by helping others overcome social problems such as poverty, relationship problems, domestic violence, crime, and drug abuse. They also work to prevent social problems from arising. Social Workers also develop and promote preventive measure and services to address societal issues.
Working at different levels with a diverse clientele. Their work could be developmental, preventive and also remedial. Clients range from individuals, families, groups and larger communities of society. As a Social Worker you will come into direct contact with a vast cross-section of society – either as individuals, families or groups.
Social Workers are found in a variety of work settings. They will be involved in case management, working with individuals and families in Family Service Centres, Community Development Centres, Prisons and other Corrective and Rehabilitation agencies, Hospitals, Hospices and other health agencies.
Social Workers should be sensitive and have a genuine interest in helping or working with others, have a firm belief in the worth of human beings and hold a deep respect for all people.
A Social Work career begins with a Bachelors degree in Social Work. Post Graduate, Masters and Doctorate degrees provide a pathway for further professional development.
