Lawyer
A lawyer’s job is to know the laws and regulations of a country very well, and help their clients protect their interests especially in times of disagreement. A country (or jurisdiction) has rules that ensures individuals and companies and even government itself behaves in an acceptable way. This governs all sorts of actions from murder to taking up a mortgage to evading taxes to death. There are different types of law that lawyers can specialize in, including corporate law, tax law and criminal law.
A lawyer spends most of their time understanding the client’s situation. This could mean finding out everything about the history, health and whereabouts of an alleged murderer, or understand how a bank wants to handle a mortgage payment when the owner misses his/her monthly payments. Of course, to understand how the law will apply, they have to spend a lot of time on research. Mostly understanding what laws are applicable, interpreting and also finding out how similar cases were dealt with historically (also known as precedence).
Lawyers prepare legal documents which carefully list out matters that need to be clarified, and scenarios that need to be worked out. Unfortunately, lawyers have a tendency to write in a legal tone which can be hard for the layman to comprehend.
Sometimes a client’s dispute requires a judge to determine the outcome. The lawyer will then attend trials to represent his or her client, and either defend the client against charges or prosecute the accused.
