Electrical Engineers design, implement, maintain, and improve all the electronics everyone uses everyday. They do this while focusing on economy, safety, reliability, quality and sustainability. If you love all things that encompass technology – this career’s for you.
Electrical Engineers may “father” projects from the concept and detail of the design through to implementation, testing and finally handover. That is not all as Electrical Engineers may be involved in the project’s maintenance programs. These projects may span different sectors; for example, in the building industry Electrical Engineers may be involved in the electrical design of the lighting, heating, and ventilation systems.
The day-to-day activities of Electrical Engineers include studying technical manuals, reading articles and publications; designing, testing, assembling devices, and writing reports to track on various projects. Needless to say, computer skills are important. This is second to interpersonal skills as there is a quite an amount of interpersonal communication required within projects.
To be successful in this career, you need to possess a firm grip of the technical knowledge involved. A good Electrical Engineer needs to project manage and multitask. They also need to have commercial awareness. Additional attributes, such as team leadership or management skills, are required as the Electrical Engineer’s career progresses.
