Choreographer
Choreographers create dance routines and performance sequences for dancers and other performers. They collaborate with producers, costume designers, musicians and artistic directors to develop ideas and convert the dance routines into a finished performance that suits the musical score.
They are responsible for auditioning dancers and performers, teaching dance moves, and scheduling conducting rehearsals in consultation with the producers. Naturally, they also look after the safety and welfare and the performers under their charge. The working hours are dependent on rehearsal schedules and performance show times, and can therefore be very irregular. There may even be a need to to tour overseas with the production team for major productions.
Choreographers usually have a degree in dance, and some specialise in choreography. Most begin to build their experience whilst working as dancers. As Singapore places more emphasis on the performing arts and culture, this is a sector that has much room for growth.
If you possess creativity and imagination in abundance, have an in-depth knowledge and expertise in dance, movement and music, boast good coaching skills, and work well in a big team, this could be your opportunity.
